Spintech III, Awaji Island, JAPAN August 1-5, 2005

Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center

Chairs. H. Katayama-Yoshida and H. Ohno

Scope of the Spintech III

The third international school and conference on spintronics and quantum information technology (Spintech III) will be held at Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center ( http://www.yumebutai.org ) at the Awaji Island, Hyogo, in Japan, from August 1 to 5 in 2005.

Spintech III aims at highlighting the latest developments in using spin-dependent phenomena in nanoelectronics. It also intends to provide an overview of the current understanding of the physics of spin related phenomena in (magnetic) semiconductor and hybrid magnetic / semiconductor structures and of the prospect of exploitation of spin-dependent phenomena in future nano-(opto-)electronic and (quantum) computing and communication applications. The Spintech III School mainly for graduate students will be held in the first half of the period followed by the Spintech III Conference in the second half. Student participation is strongly encouraged.

Spintech III School days (August 1-3, 2005)

(1) Students, post-doc, and newcomers to the field are invited to attend the school sessions on August 1-3, prior to the opening of the Spintech III Conference.

(2) The organizers plan to invite the most experienced scientists in the field to present tutorial lectures, which will give an introduction to the role of spins in semiconductors and to the most commonly applied experimental and theoretical methods in the field. Each lecture is 60 min. talk (including 20 min. discussion).

(3) After the tutorial sessions in the evening on Monday, August 1, an informal well-come reception will take place to give the attendee a chance to socialize with one another.

Spintech III Conference days (August 3-5, 2005)

(1) Spintronics researchers are invited to attend the Spintech III Conference sessions on August 3-5.

(2) The organizers and international advisory committee plan to invite the most distinguished researchers in spintronics field to present the invited talks. Each invited talk is 30 min. (including 5 min. discussion).

(3) Oral presentation is 15 min. talk (including 3 min. discussion).

(4) Poster sessions take place on August 3, and 4.

(5) Banquet will take place on Thursday, August 4.

(6) We do not publish the Proceeding of the Conference.

General Information

LOCATION

Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center(http://www.yumebutai.org/conf_e/index.html) is located in the northern part of Awaji Island, Hyogo, Japan.

Awaji Yumebutai International Conference Center
(http://www.yumebutai.org), Awaji Island, Japan
(1) 30 minutes from Kobe (Sannomiya) - 30 km
(2) 60 minutes from Osaka (Umeda) - 60 km
(3) 90 minutes from Kansai International Airport- 100 km

(A) Arriving:
The nearest airport to the conference site is Kansai International Airport.

(1) Kansai International Airport to Kobe Samnomiya
From the airport, we suggest you to take a bus to Kobe Samnomiya (or Sannomiya) from the bus stop #6 as shown in
http://www.kansai-airport.or.jp/english/access/bus.htm
The time table for the bus is given at
http://www.kate.co.jp/pc/english/english.html
It takes about 65 minutes between Kansai International Airport and Sannomiya Station.

(2) Kobe Samnomiya to YUMEBUTAI
Then you should transfer at Sannomiya to another bus going directly to the conference site "YUMEBUTAI BUS STOP." The bus leaves from the bus stop #2 which situates just across from the bus stop arriving from the Airport. The time table and the bus terminal map is given at
http://www.yumebutai.org/conf_e/contents/access/time/time2.html
WARNING: While the time table shown in the above web site is correct, we found that the map of bus terminals around Sannomiya station is very misleading. Please refer to the map

for the transfer between bus coming in from the airport to the bus leaving for Awaji Yumebutai The bus ride between Sannomiya and Yumebutai takes about 50 minutes.

It is also possible to enjoy a boat trip between Kansai Airport and Conference site though it takes much longer time. The boat ride is very pleasant and therefore you may want to choose this option
if you are arriving early. Information can be found in
http://www.yumebutai.org/conf_e/contents/access/time/time3.html

(B) Departing:
If you are leaving from Kansai Airport in the morning, you should NOT stay at Awaji Island the night before. You should book a hotel in Sannomiya or at the airport. The airport hotel
http://www.nikkokix.com/e/top.html
has a rate about 11000 yen per night for single stay as long as rooms are available.

The 23rd International Conference on Defects in Semiconductors (ICDS-23), from July 24 to July 29, 2005, ( http://www.sanken.osaka-u.ac.jp/icds23/ ), will be held at the same place of Spintech III. ICDS-23 will continue to place its main focus on detailed understanding of electrical, optical, and structural properties of defects and impurities in semiconductors through novel experimental and theoretical methods. Such in depth understanding is crucially important for overcoming a variety of engineering problems associated with device processing and operation, particularly, for the realization of next generation nano-electronics, optics, and spintronics.
