“The International Joint Workshop on Advanced Sensing / Visual Attention and Interaction −Toward Creation of Human-Harmonized Information Technology− (ASVAI2013) supported by JST CREST and JSPS Core-to-Core Sanken Program” was held at Loisir hotel Naha on November 5, 2013. This workshop was in conjunction with the 2nd Asian Conference on Pattern Recognition (ACPR2013) that was held at the same venue from November 6 to 8, 2013. Aims of the workshop were to transmit our recent research progresses on advanced sensing to researchers from academia and industries and to discuss future research directions. In this workshop, Prof. Yasushi Yagi (ISIR, Osaka Univ.) and Prof. Ko Nishino (Drexel Univ.) gave talks entitled “Behavior Understanding based on Intention-Gait Model” and “Going with the flow: modeling and exploiting crowd flow in videos” respectively. Additionally, we organized two keynote talks given by world-leading researchers on advanced sensing, five organized talks and a poster session. The workshop successfully ended with a total of over 100 participants.
