What is life?" To approach this simple yet profound question, our laboratory conducts research using bioimaging technologies to understand the phenomena that occur in living cells. We are not only developing biosensors using fluorescent and bioluminescent proteins and imaging devices such as trans-scale scopes, but also trying to create "Singularity Biology" for elucidating the drastic changes in biological systems caused by a very small number of cells with outlier characteristics that have been overlooked until now. We are also developing self-glowing plants as next-generation lighting devices that do not require electricity and do not emit carbon dioxide, with the aim of realizing a next-generation, ultra energy-efficient society.
