Academic Exchange Agreement Signed with SIOM(CHINA)

On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, SANKEN and SIOM(Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences) signed an academic exchange agreement to promote researcher exchange and education and to establish an efficient research and development system.

On the same day, Director Prof. Chen Weibiao, Deputy Director Prof. Leng Yuxin and others from SIOM visited Osaka University and a signing ceremony was held.
Since the academic agreement between Osaka University ILE (Institute of aLaser Engineering) and SIOM was also in progress at the same time, the signing ceremony was held jointly by the three institutes.

At the beginning of the ceremony, the director of each institute introduced his institute, followed by the signing of the agreement.
After the ceremony, the three institutes had lunch and engaged in a lively exchange of ideas to promote research and student exchange.

SIOM is the largest institute of optics and laser science in China, and has already conducted international cooperative research with more than 10 countries. Meanwhile, the Department of Quantum Beam Physics (Hosokai Lab. - SANKEN) has been promoting research on ultra-intense laser-driven particle acceleration and its applications, and has been discussing with SIOM researchers through international conferences and academic exchanges since 2018, laying the foundation for cooperative research.

In April 2024, SIOM visited Hosokai Lab to discuss future exchanges and research cooperation, and agreed to cooperate in the research areas such as cutting-edge power laser technology, optical-driven ultra-compact high-energy accelerators, high-tolerance large optical systems, large-scale numerical calculations of relativistic beam plasmas, and ultra-short pulse beam applications, etc. The two institutes have agreed to cooperate in the research fields of laser-driven ultra-compact high-energy accelerators, high-tolerance large optical systems, large-scale numerical simulations of relativistic beam plasmas, and ultra-short pulse beam applications.

The agreement is expected to improve the quality of education and research at both institutes and further promote internationalization. We hope that the cooperation between SIOM and SANKEN will continue to deepen and that joint research at the forefront of optics and laser technology will progress in the future.
