Research and Facilities
HOMEDiv.1 Information and Quantum Sciences
In a networked society, advanced information processing technology is indispensable. Our department consists of both information science and quantum science fields, researching a wide range from soft aspects such as principles of intelligent information processing and algorithms to hardware aspects such as advanced information processing and new sensing devices. These research areas collaborate with each other, aiming for global achievements. Additionally, we actively engage in joint research with universities, companies both domestically and internationally. At the graduate school, we accept students from various disciplines and strive to foster researchers with advanced knowledge and broad perspectives.
Div.2 Advanced Materials and Beam Science
Culminating materials and beam sciences, our research division pioneers the creation of advanced materials and the development of cutting-edge beam technologies. We design and apply novel materials like information and energy materials, while also exploring high-brightness, high-quality quantum beams and their applications. Collaborating across various fields, we aim to realize a harmonious society by innovating new functional materials.
Div.3 of Biological and Molecular Sciences
Our research division consists of two fields: bioscience and molecular science, comprising seven research areas. In bioscience, we have conducted research on the development of drug delivery systems within the body, elucidation of multidrug resistance mechanisms, development of novel therapeutic agents, and the development of biosensors using fluorescent and chemiluminescent proteins. In molecular science, we conduct diverse research ranging from organic synthesis chemistry to molecular chemical elucidation of biological functions.
Additionally, while deepening research in each field, we are also promoting integrated research between bioscience and molecular science. We accept graduate students from various faculties such as the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Graduate School of Life Sciences, aiming to foster researchers with broad perspectives.
Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Center
WEB SITEThe center, established in 2002, aims to promote comprehensive nanoscience and nanotechnology, focusing on bottom-up nanotechnology for building atomic and molecular materials, top-down nanotechnology for fabricating nanodevices, and their fusion for industrial applications. Starting from the fiscal year 2021, we have initiated the Advanced Research Infrastructure for Materials and Nanotechnology in Japan (ARIM) project to continue facility sharing and collect and utilize material data generated from our nanotechnology platform. We strive to establish a diverse network of collaborations locally and internationally to become a hub for nanotechnology research
Artificial Intelligence Research Center
WEB SITEThe Center was established in April 2019 with the aim of fostering AI researchers specialized in various research domains within the organization and developing AI implementation protocols through a practice known as 'bottom-up AI adoption.' It comprises AI introduction research fields corresponding to the three major research divisions of the organization and the Nanotechnology Center. The Center provides AI education to young researchers in each research field and collaborates with existing AI research institutions to develop AI implementation protocols led by the research community.
Div. Next Industry Generation
Div. Special Projects
Our research division solicits research proposals from young researchers to harness their abilities and creativity. Those selected lead their own research areas and drive research initiatives as the appointed professors or associate professors . By integrating organizational strength with individuality and creativity, we aim to foster outstanding researchers and enhance the overall research capacity of the institute.
Div. Joint Research/Research Alliance Laboratories
Network Joint Research Center for Materials and Devices
Research and Educational Facilities and Centers
We have affiliated facilities and centers that provide an environment supporting cutting-edge research, serving as university-wide shared facilities. Additionally, we have established centers that promote practical education and innovative research through close collaboration with the industry, as well as address international challenges through cooperation with leading researchers worldwide.
Common Facilities
Our shared facilities provide support for diverse research activities, offering researchers access to state-of-the-art equipment and resources. We also have specialized support systems in place to back researchers, allowing them to focus on experiments and analyses. Some facilities are open to external researchers as well.
