Department of Material Excitation Chemistry studies basic and applied chemistry of photo- or radio-excited molecules and materials. Functional molecules and materials are designed and produced in the laboratory to realize desired functionalities toward various social problems. We are using various time-resolved spectroscopic methods such as ns and fs laser flash photolysis, pulse radiolysis, and microscopic methods to elucidate reaction mechanisms for optimization. Currently, we are engaging following topics: 1 ) Elucidation of reaction dynamics of excited intermediates and higher excited state. 2 ) Photoenergy conversion and high yield synthesis using various nano-structured photocatalysts. 3 ) Development of photo- and radio-responsive nanomaterials and their applications to biology.
