# Nano material science # three-dimensional manufacturing

The physical properties and device functionalities created in nano-structures are characterized by (1) higher performance, higher speed, and larger capacity as the extensions of conventional technologies, and (2) the introduction of phenomena and principles which firstly appear in nano-structures and nano-spaces. It should be the ultimate dream in materials science, to design and produce the materials from the origin of nano-scale functionalities and to create unprecedented superior functionalities. In nano-structures, their structures, properties, and device operation efficiencies are directly linked, and thus, it is required highly reliable production technologies precisely controlling artificial nano-structures to create novel nano-functionalities. In order to realize nano-manufacturing which creates new functional materials, we actively incorporate a wide range of knowledge and flexible ideas centered on "mechanical engineering," "condensed matter physics," and "nano-structure science."
