Award-winning project:Research on bacterial drug efflux pumps to develop treatments for resistant bacterial infections
[Award Comments]
For a long time, humans and pathogenic bacteria have been battling the development of new antimicrobial agents and the emergence of new resistant bacteria. However, humans have been losing this battle in recent years.
Drug efflux pumps, proteins that efflux various drugs from the inside to the outside of bacteria, have received particular attention as a cause of multidrug resistance in bacteria.
Our research results on the operation and inhibition mechanisms of these proteins have been highly evaluated and have led us to receive this award, as these results are directly related to the early conquest of resistant bacterial infections.
Based on our research findings, we are collaborating with pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs and have identified several candidate compounds. We will continue to improve these compounds for early commercialization and hope to significantly contribute to averting a pandemic of resistant bacteria.
